Re: Misc Crossroads News

This may be covered elsewhere, but the new (ish) Waldo Thai Place at 85th and Wornall (where Swagger used to be) is really, really good. The food is really flavorful and hella spicy - the thai fried chicken is amazing ("fried" is a bit misleading, it's brined for several days, slicked with a hot mar...

Re: Politics

i'm reading "american nations" right now and it feels very accurate on a macro-level. I appreciate the description of STL as a "border city" straddling the nations of Midlands and Appalachia. https://www.washingtonpost.com/pbox.php?url=http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/govbeat/files/2013/11/upinar...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

i've been once or twice for lunch and thought it was pretty solid. i don't get the "plaza" hate for the crossroads, since that kind of vibe has been part of the neighborhood for a long time (and is trending even moreso).

Re: Misc Crossroads News

The Crossroads has had a "little bit of the Plaza" for years...more like "a lot of the Plaza."

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

$2000 a month gets you a $350k home or a 2 bed 2 bath apartment with one parking spot. I think most people would opt for a house. $350k in KC gets you a pretty sweet place. In the burbs. Not in KC's urban core. I suppose "sweet" is in the eye of the beholder, but you can definitely do well in KC's ...

Re: Are downtown apartment occupancy rapidly trending down?

Downtown KC is by far the deadest "feeling" major downtown in the country. It just has almost no city "bustle" what so ever. It hasn't had that vibe since the 20's - 50's when it was a major shopping and entertainment destination for everybody in the metro. There are a few I don't dispute that down...

Re: Politics

I don't think KS is "going blue" anytime soon, in the sense of becoming a reliably blue state. Glad to see things shift back a bit in this election, but I can't imagine it portends anything long-term about KS turning some meaningful corner.

We continue to obtain proof every single day that Hillary Clinton's statement about "deplorables" may have been politically-inadvisable, but it was (and is) 100% accurate.

Plate reportedly reopening in a Butch Rigby mid-century office blddg at 63rd and Holmes. Glad to see the restaurant coming back, but I hope they find a way to configure the restaurant in an office building in a way that is not super awkward.

Re: Kansas Side Breweries

yeah that's pretty aggressive, but good to see. i can't imagine they all survive given the increasingly crowded beer market, but the more the merrier. there are several breweries on the east side of the metro now too (crane, new axiom, smoke, east 40, fringe). BKS Artisan Ales also seems to be doing...
