Re: Brewery Emperial - 1829 Oak

finally checked out brewery emperial. we really liked it. i think they did a nice job with a rather lackluster little building. the place was packed and there was even a good crowd outside despite the slightly chilly weather. only tried one beer but liked it. had the grilled whole trout which was de...

$1500 for a one-bed on Broadway with street-parking? "West Portlandia?" I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

"martini corner" is in serious need of some freshening up. it is strange to me that area has become this frozen-in-2001 timewarp that has become so stagnant and even declined in recent years, given all the new residential that has been constructed nearby as well as the continued gentrifica...

Re: Xroads James Beard District

yeah we've always had neutral-to-great service at PF. not saying folks can't have an "off" night there, but the staff seems well trained and professional overall.

Re: Brookside

I spent seven years in EBro (Rockhill Ridge) and recently moved. It wasn't a terrible neighborhood, but most of the neighbors had a sort of inward focus that didn't translate into a sense of community. interesting. for us, in the 5 weeks we've been in BKS, we've met and chatted with as many, if not...

Re: Xroads James Beard District

i don't particularly care whether someone likes PF or not, but most of the criticism i hear is that PF doesn't have their cheesy gringo-mex favorites. whether you like the ambiance and vibe or not, the place is cooking from a pretty respectful place and incorporates some interesting ingredients and ...

street fire at 61st & Walnut most weekend nights is fun for a beer or five. do tell. this is v. close to us. The block has really turned over the past couple of years and it's great to see so many young families moving in. a neighbor (with kids) said the same of our block. when they moved in 8 ...

Re: Brookside

East(ish) Brookside has finally turned a pivotal corner - I live there now. Let's take this gentrification up a few notches. I thought Hyde Park had been seeming less nebbish lately. ha! HP snowflakes don't know what they're missing... East(ish) Brookside sounds like west of Oak...so Brookside or M...

Interesting - I did not know about that 43/Main Roasterie location. Is it part of the H&R block space or will it be separate?

the south-end expansion/restaurant zone thing is still under construction. i dont know when it will be complete but it does not look remotely close to completion to my untrained eye.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I lament the loss of Houston's. It is not only a longtime tenant, but it was/is good. It's not just another chain, like Brio or Coldstone Creamery or Cheesecake Factory. Heck, even Bon Appetit recently did a piece lauding Hillstone. It was really kind of a great, time-capsule restaurant unburdened b...

Re: Stock Hill on the Plaza

We popped in to Stock Hill last night. We did not try any of the steaks, we just sat in the bar area and had 3 small plates/apps and some wine. We thought it was vastly over-priced and vastly under-delivered. The short-rib dish was weirdly under-flavored - the meat was cooked quite nicely but ultima...

Another well-curated (aka, smallish) selection comes from the recently opened Antler Room. I'm a sucker for a good white from Alsace, and they had a few dry options from both sides of the border. I think I ended up with an Italian red for a later course, which was great. we tried Antler Room for th...
