Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner

In Cerner's case they are going after college grads who would more likely want to live downtown anyway. And downtown is getting schools and developing towards family living anyway, so many may not 'grow out of city living', as it this the case with professional leaning families in much larger citie...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

i dont think Rye on the plaza is an effort to entice JoCo residents to go to the Plaza. (1) JoCo presence on the plaza is already quite strong and probably isn't hurt or helped by Rye. (2) the plaza is a super-regional destination so it's probably more about attracting or keeping the MO/KS/IA/NE/AR/...

Nice. Good Mexican food is weirdly lacking south of downtown in KCMO.

Depends on where you are, but I would argue that in general northeast actually fares a bit better. Not much, but you've got little dive bars

what bars are still open in Northeast?

Re: Brookside

I have heard a new restaurant will be announced for the Julian space soon. It will fill a niche that isn't currently in BKS. Also, a pizza/taproom will be opening adjacent to Brookside wine and spirits on 63rd as a sister business to the liquor store. 1. Any more info on the operation taking over t...

Re: Brookside

it's also much more walkable to amenities and services than our prior location (south hyde park) trying not to derail the conversation about BKS, but this statement is such a perfect example of how far Hyde Park, specifically, is from functioning as a truly desirable urban neighborhood. Without any...

Re: Brookside

We just moved to the area from midtown... Sorry, curious, can I ask why? we just gravitated towards the BKS vibe now that we have a toddler. our new block is full of kids. it's also much more walkable to amenities and services than our prior location (south hyde park). we do miss aspects of our old...

Re: Brookside

Why does Brookside have such a bland restaurant scene? It seems like Waldo has passed up Brookside in terms of Selection and Quality. that is a really great question, and i don't really have the answer. a guess could be that BKS, in general, is pretty family-focused and also has a fair amount of ol...

Re: Brookside

Does anyone have any intel on the owner/manager of the BKS Shops properties and their intentions? Seems like when they first acquired the property, there was a big uproar over threatened or rumored evictions (Foo's, BKS Toy and Science) but then it doesn't seem like much happened. Now I am hearing r...

Re: Thrillist ranks KC burgers

The Corner Cocktail at 85/Wornall has a very good burger. Also Aixois has a great burger and maybe the most expensive in town (I think it's like $17 with cheese) but it's actually worth it - and, miraculously, arrives medium rare. There is nothing worse than an overcooked burger, and so many places ...

Re: Brewery Emperial - 1829 Oak

finally checked out brewery emperial. we really liked it. i think they did a nice job with a rather lackluster little building. the place was packed and there was even a good crowd outside despite the slightly chilly weather. only tried one beer but liked it. had the grilled whole trout which was de...

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

"martini corner" is in serious need of some freshening up. it is strange to me that area has become this frozen-in-2001 timewarp that has become so stagnant and even declined in recent years, given all the new residential that has been constructed nearby as well as the continued gentrifica...

Re: Brookside

I spent seven years in EBro (Rockhill Ridge) and recently moved. It wasn't a terrible neighborhood, but most of the neighbors had a sort of inward focus that didn't translate into a sense of community. interesting. for us, in the 5 weeks we've been in BKS, we've met and chatted with as many, if not...
