Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

didn't Lee's Summit overall vote YES on this plan? I think Jaxco outside 435 is pretty varied. I think support for a downtown stadium in the burbs breaks largely along age lines. i grew up in suburban Jaxco and just about everyone i know younger than, say, 50 supports a downtown stadium. Many of tho...

I will say that the “yard sign wars” have been pretty even on this matter. I swear I have seen an equal number of yes signs to no signs.
interesting, in BKS i feel like the yard signs I have seen have been 75% yes and 25% no

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

anecdotally, turnout at the 59th and rockhill polling location seemed pretty robust to me for a one-issue April election. I would guess I voted along with around 20 folks coming and going, at 8am. I overheard 2 people (ostensibly a married couple) talking on the way out that they voted YES. not sure...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

related question - if NO prevails, how confident are we that "coming back to the table" will be in KC/Jaxco as opposed to Kansas, Clayco or something like that? Is East Village even an option at this point? I feel like the NO folks assume the team will come back to East Village or some &qu...

how are most people accessing the stadium since there apparently isn't much parking? park in river market and walk down, uber, or what?

Re: Brookside

2 colonnades would be great...or retail on the bottom with housing above. maybe i'm cynical but i think the neighbors would pretty strongly resist zoning changes, complaining of added density ("traffic") in that location. i suspect the immediate neighbors are already annoyed with "Ear...

https://59thandholmes.com/ The lots across from Earl's are for sale, $200K each. i like all the renderings and plans--other than the suggestion to "Pave over as a parking lot, Earls Premier and the shopping center across Holmes street have exceeded the neighborhood parking demands."

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

my 2 cents: I think the Crossroads location will yield a more successful outcome for the stadium and downtown. We have all thought about EV as the site for years now but ultimately I am confident it would simply be another underutilized island of low activity in KC. There is no reason, post-COVID, t...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

the Xroads site--if done well, which is a big "if"--seems ideal to me. i have little to no faith that the $1B entertainment/residential development in the EV would ever happen at all, or be done well if it was completed. net result is either (1) a new stadium without a surrounding district...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

i note that the Dialectic CEO's email states that he also lives in the Xroads and that he and his wife feel unsafe. while folks on this forum may think he is being dramatic, it doesn't sound like this guy is "afraid" of downtown since he lives downtown and maintains a business downtown.

quite the "burn" coming from "Missouri," possibly one of the few states that is a bigger dumpster fire than Kansas.

Re: Prairie Village

doesnt seem to be as controversial, but it appears to be happening in old leawood as well....lots of teardowns or folks turning relatively modest ranches into $1-3M homes. obv. larger lots so the new homes do not look as out of place. i think it bodes well that folks with the income to live anywhere...

Re: Restaurants you ate out at as a kid

this would not qualify as a "classic KC restaurant" or anything, but the restaurant from my childhood that i think about the most is Dos Hombres, which was a tex-mex place in an oddly-shaped building at 89th and blue ridge. the building is still there but i think it is empty. i remember th...

i got my first pair of doc martens at loma vista hardware when it was upstairs in that building on westport road near where 303 is now (if memory serves). this would have been about 1994? prior to that, they sold clothes and skateboards in the loma vista hardware store in the loma vista shopping cen...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal

at the airport now, arrived around 9am. parked in economy C lot and the shuttle came within 2 minutes. saw multiple busses roving the A and C lots. TSA pre-check security took at most 4 min. regular security had maybe 40 people in line and they had several checkpoints open so it was moving quickly. ...

Re: 1985 Best and Worst of KC

the "coffee shop" concept sounds interesting. would that be similar to billie's grocery and caffetteria now? all day "cafe/restaurant" that also has booze? photos of putsch's online make it look like both a formal/fancy restaurant and basically a cafeteria. what about fern bars? ...
