Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

The official HPNA response, written by the HPNA president, with no input from the board or neighbors, requests a 1:1 parking ratio. I don't think that is in line with the opinion of most HP residents, but it is clear the president has kept this process closed so he can control the outcome. i'm sure...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Yeah, it was definitely very hostile. People wouldn't even let MAC finish their presentation (which wasn't that long) before launching into lengthy rants. There were some parking complaints, but it seems like most of the ire was directed toward gentrification/apartments being too expensive. interes...

Re: Whole Foods mixed-use project @ 51/Oak

I will agree that the Whole Foods "hot bar" prepared foods I have tried have not been great, although I am not aware of any grocery store prepared foods that are worth a damn...so we almost never buy them unless we're in a rush on our way somewhere. In a pinch we'll buy a prepared cold salad or side...

Re: Whole Foods mixed-use project @ 51/Oak

I don't get the appeal of Trader Joe's at all, unless all you're after is frozen food and inexpensive nuts. It is woefully insufficient for a weeks groceries. Cosentinos is passable for a neighborhood store but the produce is bad and costs just as much as Whole Foods. Sprouts is bad as well, I was j...

ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE

I was at Warby Parker this morning buying some sunglasses, and another customer asked the clerk if there was a Walgreen's on the Plaza. The clerk directed the customer to the Broadway and Troost locations. The customer seemed miffed there was not a Walgreen's on the Plaza.

From that listing, it looks like the Santa Maria is listed individually for $3.5M.

Altar'D State looks to be a Christian/Faith Based Clothing store, https://www.racked.com/2015/9/9/9280177/altard-state-christian-fashion-stores. It might be a good location since there are people that visit from NW Arkansas, Oklahoma and other parts that to be heavily religious. i don't disagree th...

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

i think the food hall will draw people from a much larger radius than that. i would surmise that a large % of the guests at most of the finer restos in KC are largely comprised of people who drove anywhere from 5-20 miles away (esp. JoCo). your typical 25-35 crowd outside at Char Bar on a nice day w...

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

I think folks are underestimating that people all over the metro, including the city, will drive to go to this place (assuming it's worthwhile and strikes a chord). It's not an amenity just for people who live in Mission or the KS burbs. similarly, many places in the city (esp. higher-end restaurant...

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

interestingly, that rendering shows the food hall and the "entertainment" space is next to it. I was thinking the food hall was the entertainment tenant (what with the games and whatnot).

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

The KC Star reported a couple months ago that there was some vague progress being made, and referenced an "entertainment" tenant. But yeah, this is definitely unexpected and from an unexpected source.

Re: Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

I share that concern about the execution of celeb chef concepts across the country, but I do have some faith in Colicchio himself. Per the article, his restaurant group is directly involved, he isn't just licensing his name (or so it appears). His restaurants in other parts of the country are well-e...

Tom Colicchio-involved "Food Hall" to Mission Mall site?

https://www.foodandwine.com/news/tom-colicchio-crafted-food-hall-kansas-city?utm_source=facebook.com&xid=soc_socialflow_facebook_fw&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=foodandwine Tom Colicchio already has an empire to his name, with six restaurants around the country. But soon, the chef and Top Chef jud...

Re: Brookside

we enjoyed it as well. i got the "DIY" street tacos, in which the components all had pretty good flavor, although the DIY component is kind of unnecessary. Also the tortillas, while local and fresh, disintegrated in my hands. so that was kind of disappointing - but i was happy to eat everything on t...

Re: 50s/Main development

this may be addressed elsewhere - but what is up with all the hotel activity in KC in the last few years? who is staying in all these hotel rooms? has convention biz picked up, or is there something else driving it?
