Re: Bay Area short term job/suggestions/help

addendum: i’ve never crossed the golden gate so the entire west coast between marin and central oregon/crater lake is unknown to me. if time allows you should def. go up Hwy 1 from Marin to as far north as you are willing to go. Mendocino county is great - redwoods, epic rocky coasts, very pacific ...

Re: Bay Area short term job/suggestions/help

here is my 2 cents: if you're going to be in sonoma county, i honestly would not even bother with trying to pop down to SF (or OAK) , unless it's the weekend and you have all day (and maybe could consider staying overnight in the city). there is no fast, convenient, or pleasant way to get from anywh...

i went to a bar like that in Albany NY, which served free small cheese pizzas with every beer. pretty cool concept.

Re: City Corridor Happy Hour Deals

Antler Room has $6 HH cocktails that are strong and delicious, and I think they do HH on the weekends too. Also wine specials.

https://www.thepitchkc.com/what-happens-to-kansas-citys-art-scene-now-that-its-most-attractive-qualities-cheap-rent-and-studio-spaces-are-vanishing/ articles like this seem to pop up all the time, and in KC it has become somewhat routine to hear folks complain along these lines--not just for artists...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

"parenthood" is a deep cut. i'm not sure i've ever seen it, although the not-really-related TV series is must-see content. i think STL is a really interesting place. i am sure folks who live there feel a lot of momentum and have optimism for the city, but as an outsider it's hard to look past the fa...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

all this said, i should probably do more of an apples-to-apples comparison of lifestyle. nearly all of the times i've been to STL, it's to visit friends or family and we end up driving all over creation to see a bunch of stuff. when youre bouncing around south city, downtown, CWE, clayton/U City, le...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

i've said this elsewhere, but my main beef with STL is that the very real "cool factor" and abundant charm seems relatively outweighed by the "pain in the ass factor" of relatively bad traffic and attitude compared to KC or other cities. some cities are so cool and exciting it's worth an increase i...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

while i agree 100% with the idea of STL seeming "closed-off" and KC seeming comparatively "open," i really have no idea why i have this impression. what accounts for this? i think STL is cursed (and i guess also blessed) by having a very large urban core. it's so large, and it emptied out so much, t...

shit, STL going NEGATIVE? how is that possible, esp. with the cortex corridor? or is that not considered downtown?

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

i've been to maybe 40 airports and, to be honest, other than LAX and DIA, i am not sure i can picture in my mind the exterior of any one of them. i can picture aspects of the interior of a few airports in my mind, but not b/c of striking design--mostly b/c of some bad memory of being delayed and bei...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!

i think it looks pretty sharp. i like the transparency of the terminal and the exterior and interior wood. i'm guessing the fountain will look better in person as well. it's not going to be an iconic building by any stretch of the imagination, but i dig it.

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

Obviously western Wyco is not a good location for anything, but I am not sure we would want an MLS stadium downtown. Maybe somewhere downtown-adjacent, like the W or E Bottoms, or even NKC.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

at the risk of sounding like a cranky kansas city star website commenter: i'm legitimately curious if there are other upscale shopping districts in the U.S., which command some of the highest rents in their respective regions, which see the level of crime and mischief of the plaza? the shooting of 4...

Re: Property Tax Assessments 2019

Steve52, most everyone that lives in the Plaza/Brookside area "got away with" lower increases because we already were assessed at near market value, which means we have been carrying the weight for everyone that was assessed well below market value. this was my impression as well. i feel a lot of s...

Re: Property Tax Assessments 2019

We did not appeal. Our assessment in Morningside went up around 8%. Sucked but it's still valued around 50K less than we paid for the house 2 years ago. I worry that if we appealed JaxCo would actually INCREASE our assessment.
