Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
http://www.kansascity.com/2012/03/26/3515919/streetcar-backers-could-have-fought.html#storylink=cpy Interesting article in the Star today. This got mentioned over on OKC Talk already. I had no idea you guys have had such a bleak history of light rail proposals. Btw, Tulsa funded its downtown ballpar...

North OKC development boom
Thought I'd add a thread about OKC's infill development boom outside downtown, recognizing that a lot of Midwestern cities have urban development in other neighborhoods, however neighborhoods have traditionally been a weakness of OKC. I think it just speaks volumes that OKC is seeing this explosion ...

Re: The state of Texas : Mexico can have it back
The Plaza area is probably the best piece of urbanity in the US between the coast and outside of Chicago, there is nothing in Houston even close to that in terms of urbanity, walkability and aesthetics. While there are a lot of middle to upper class people living in Houston inside the loop (certai...

Re: The state of Texas : Mexico can have it back
You lose credibility when you did 3 things: put Houston/Dallas in same boat as Phoenix/Vegas, assert that DFW is more popular than Houston?, and compare Uptown Dallas to KC's busier suburbs. Those demonstrate an epic failure to put things in perspective properly. And you made me come to the defense ...

Re: The state of Texas : Mexico can have it back
The thing that bothers me about the Houston hate is that it is predicated nearly entirely on the suburbs. Don't tell me KC isn't extremely sprawly as well. I never paid any attention to the suburbs unless I was driving through the east burbs to get to New Orleans when I lived there--and east is prob...

Ooooh, ok. They definitely still had Smokin Joe's stuff up at the same time as rainbow flags, I remember that. They might have been in the middle of changing signs out or something.
For lack of a gay bbq joint KC loses 5 hipster points, or whatever the appropriate tally would be.

Rainbow BBQ joint in the Xroads? What am i missing? There was a bbq joint I think around Main and 19th a few years ago I saw one time that was decked out with several rainbow flags. I guess it was in that area where the Blvd straightens out. I am surprised you guys don't know what I'm talking about...

Re: Tulsa
pretty weak that they would expand to OK before downtown KC! i'd love to see a cool OK Joe's in the East Xroads or something - live music and stuff would be cool too. very "austin." Yeah sure, why not get some Texshas influence along with the Okie influence in KC? You know, for those th...

Re: The definitive Midtown Tulsa photo thread
Ha, I've actually had something similar happen to me.. When I turned 16.. as soon as I got my license I got rear-ended on Westheimer by an illegal alien in an old beater truck going 50 (drunk). Good times, of course nothing happened to him, because the traffic cop didn't want to deal with it. That w...

Re: The definitive Midtown Tulsa photo thread
I enjoyed my time in Tulsa. FYI....I do not view all southerners as if they have just walked out of an episode of the Dukes of Hazard. I do live in the south. I have problems with the attitudes of some southerners for certain (e.g., the south will rise again, lincoln's war of northern aggression...

Re: The definitive Midtown Tulsa photo thread
While I do not agree that Tulsa is more like St Louis (topographically, it's actually closer to KC), when I lived there, Tulsans identified more with St Louis than KC tending to follow the Cardinals during baseball season and a mixture of the Cowboys and Chiefs during football season. Topographica...

Re: The definitive Midtown Tulsa photo thread
True..to that degree, though--you could put Dallas (Oak Cliff) in the KC department, and I still think Tulsa stands alone even though Tulsa has some good hills in the Midtown core (primarily the residential areas)--Tulsa is MUCH hillier outside of Midtown. Downtown is pretty much the NW edge of the ...

Re: The definitive Midtown Tulsa photo thread
I'm talking about the whole STL region which is very hilly..Ozark foothills, same as Tulsa. KC is not in the Ozark uplift as those two cities are.
What I've discovered in traveling the world is almost everywhere except OKC and Chicago have some modicum of hilliness...

Re: The definitive Downtown Tulsa photo thread
The Greenwood District was once the Black Wall Street of the U.S. Then it became the site of the worst race riot in this nation's history. The Tulsa Race Riot burned 35 blocks of downtown, left 10,000 homeless, and killed 3,000 (based on gravedigger's estimates, though officially only 39, still more...

The definitive Downtown Tulsa photo thread
Here are my photos of Downtown Tulsa. Really wish I had more time and could have gotten some of the Uptown skyscraper core and the Downtown skyscraper core. DT Tulsa is one of the Top 5 Art Deco concentrations in the U.S. Uptown Tulsa is a very impressive collection of awesome modernist architecture...

Re: The definitive Midtown Tulsa photo thread
Well, I think Tulsa is more like STL than KC honestly. Just in terms of topography, rivers, the city's layout, the downtown/midtown dynamic, etc. I always thought St Louis felt like a collection of smaller picturesque urban towns jumbled in a larger metro area, and Tulsa has that feel as well. KC is...

Re: The definitive Midtown Tulsa photo thread
Oh and as for "NoChe" it is used in writing but never, ever said out loud. "SoBo" sometimes is, but it's mostly used by the businesses down there, and also in writing..but it is more vernacular than "NoChe."

Re: The definitive Midtown Tulsa photo thread
Thanks for the comments, guys. As for what Tulsa is, I can't really help you with that in terms of Midwest cities. If you're looking for your own identity to compare somehow to better understand Tulsa, I would just suggest that Tulsa and most of Oklahoma really considers itself more southern than Mi...
