Re: Affordable Housing

The problem is that many people getting subsidized housing are working. They just aren't earning enough to afford a place to live on their income. The problem has been getting worse because incomes weren't rising as much as rents. Over years, this catches up with a lot of people, and puts them in an...

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

I agree with TheLastGentleman. There is an argument to be made not to use historic tax credits for this building so that you can modify it to be more attractive to residential tenants. Adding balconies, inset patios, and windows that can be opened seems to be something that merits discussion. In the...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I think the best chance they have to keep the Arabia museum in Kansas City is to talk one of the local casinos into making it an on-site attraction; or in Missouri, is to find some private developer in Branson who would include it in some attraction.

No movement in the Legislature on moving the Steamboat Arabia Museum to Jefferson City. Ww1 is a fantastic museum. Steamboat Arabia is a private museum that he desperately wants public money from. It could also be a case of local police making arrests, but the county prosecutor deciding not to prosecute. Then we'd have to see if the state attorney general would intervene.

Re: OFFICIAL - Artistry KC (19th and Oak)

It seems that I have seen an old photo somewhere showing that there used to be a streetcar yard north of 20th street between Cherry and Oak. South of 20th Street was a rail spur yard for Union Station. I think the building The Abbott event space is in might have been a streetcar maintenance facility...

Yes, the solution is try to improve the program. Don't just shut it down, and ignore the affordable housing problem. There are a significant number of people who are eligible for public housing, and Section 8 programs, who don't work--disabled people and seniors. So education and opening up better j...
