I have to admit that when I read "signature" my mind immediately went to signature payday loans.

I know it’s not going to be that color, but I wish Kansas City had some more colorful buildings. I think it breaks up the monotony of cities well
I've been planning on starting a new thread about this very topic, and have been collecting examples.

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Here is a rendering showing the hotel massing. I wouldn't put too much stock in this image - they probably didn't put a whole lot of time or thought into the hotel portion that may never happen - but I wonder why they appear to have it oriented more towards Valentine than Broadway. http://i64.tinyp...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

There are many blocks of single family houses in this City I would like to just bulldoze and replace with denser housing . In the past that is what I would have advocated. However, now I see the wisdom in renovating what exists. I understand the ecology that is involved better. You're opposed to te...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

We can't tear down everything we don't like. Our planet is warming. We have to be cognizant that every building that has been built, or will be built, produces greenhouse gases that added/adds to our problem. Some of greenhouse gases that were produced in building this crappy shopping center are sti...

It was a parking lot. http://www.kchistory.org/content/parking-lot-1 http://www.kchistory.org/content/parking-lot-0 Broadway in Midtown used to be a residential street lined with houses. It changed over time to larger buildings and retail. There was another big mansion where the Kansas City Life Ins...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

It was once the site of Elmhurst, the mansion of Joseph T. and Annie Ridenbaugh Bird. After Joseph died, Annie took over as president of Emery, Bird, Thayer Company, the former downtown department store. Annie was the last occupant of the home, and in her will she ordered that it be razed after her ...

I'm surprised Copaken allowed anyone else to gain control of the Board of Education block (to use for parking for his 13th and Grand block).

Re: OFFICIAL - City Club Apartments (former Midwest Hotel)

A good location for another drug store would be in a new development at 20th and Grand (think City Club Apartments, but developing the entire block from scratch), and building higher. Two 20-story towers linked by mid-block heights of 5-10 stories; or assuming that 27th Street gets developed with mo...

Re: Affordable Housing

Yes, that is why all levels of government really need to get behind rehabbing some of the vacant housing stock we already have. The problem often is that many banks will not give loans on houses east of Troost--especially loans for rehabbing. Banks might finance a house purchase after the house has ...

Re: H&R Block's Second Tower?

I wouldn't think any project--office or hotel--on this site would need incentives because the parking garage underneath it is already built, and old infrastructure issues were taken care of when the site was prepared for the retail building. Those are normally the two main issues for which developer...
