Re: Old Federal Reserve (925 Grand)

I have a feeling the last announced hotel plan won't happen, and the building will be sold again.

I imagine Rigby is in the process of getting approved for historic tax credits before the renovation begins.

Re: Kansas City GO Bond

Guest commentary: $800 million bond package is no magic bullet for KC’s infrastructure needs ... The amount of new funding will definitely make a difference, but $800 million is only a fraction of the funding needed to adequately maintain the massive network of infrastructure we’ve developed. Our c...

Re: Hospital Hill activity

Children's Mercy Hospital has begun construction of another building on the north side of E. 22nd Street, and west of Holmes. The first phase of the building appears to be a garage base structure, and there appears to be plans to add more floors later as the hospital expands. http://img.photobucket....

It doesn't appear to be the same owners as the KC Workhouse building. 2000 Vine Street LLC is headed by Timothy Duggan, who is also an owner of Phronesis Design. It appears that the buildings are going to be restored as offices for three small professional firms: Phronesis Design, an architecture fi...

Re: 18th and Vine

I noticed on Monday that there was scaffolding on the vacant former Water Department building on Vine Street, and also workers going in and out of the structure. Does anyone know what is going on?

My wish list for the Northland would be for the city to ban the cul-de-sac development that is so pervasive there.

Are you sure they weren't installing new gas lines? They are doing it all over the Northeast right now, and it requires tearing up sidewalks and curbs, and replacing them once they have installed the new gas lines. They've completed this on my block, and it happened in steps similar to what you desc...

The grocery store project is a good example of focusing on a clear need and making it happen. It's the kind of project that hopefully will spur neighborhood reinvestment because it provides nearby food accessible to all using many modes and jobs too. I would also call it a benchmark of a quality ne...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel

The street level along Baltimore still sucks. Can't they put the hotel restaurant and bar facing the street on the Baltimore-side so that there are windows and entrances instead of blank walls?

Most human beings will not pay for parking if they can find free parking. They will also drive a mile, or two, out of their way to access a free air compressor for their car tires instead of paying for it.

I think there could be some commercial spaces--maybe not traditional Plaza retail, but small commercial offices (insurance agents, real estate brokers, dentist offices) and some retail (hair stylists, nail salons, spas). These are the types of businesses that don't need to be on a heavy traffic corr...

A new project just showed up on the city's development tracker map: 4711 Belleview on the west edge of the Plaza. 6 Story, 167 unit apartment building. Designed by everyone's favorite, NSPJ. Another sad way to destroy the relationship to the public realm... Shaded areas are where the parking garage...

I'd also develop the parking lot facing E. 18th and McGee. A big get would be the Locust St. parking lot. It's big enough to have a below-grade garage and apartments above. If one could assemble it with the parking lot to the south clear to E. 18th Street, one could put in a pretty large apartment b...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

I have mixed feelings about this BOA project. I want to see density increased where it can be. I have no problem with newer buildings being mixed next to historic buildings. That is what makes cities dynamic. You can have 10-story buildings next to one-and-two story buildings. That's less of a probl...
