Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)

I also like the contrast compared to surrounding buildings. Chicago and Detroit are full of older tan-colored brick houses and buildings. In fact, it seems there are more tan-colored buildings in Detroit than red-colored brick. This conversation reminded me of one I had years ago outside the downtow...

Re: Politics

I find some of the immigration really interesting. Like why did Bosnians settle in South St Louis and its now the largest bosnians population outside of bosnia. or why did Somilians and Hmongs settle in Minnesota? Even Akron has a large Burmese population. KC has a large Somali/Sudanese population ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

According to a Business Journal article on endangered buildings the Christian Scientist church is to be torn down and replaced with a 13 story office tower. Would be a loss for the human scale along 47th and create a blocky wall on the north side. I wonder if they got this wrong and meant there is ...

Re: How Kansas City got its' name

I am not saying the Kanza tribe didn't exist, or that they didn't have villages. I am saying there was no official federal territory or state in the United States yet named after them when Kansas City was being settled. The Kansas Territory was established May 30, 1854. Kansas City, Missouri was inc...

It's obvious the guy was punking you all. No respectable gay person I know would buy Pabst Blue Ribbon with their own money. :D

At least we know there is a future.

Re: Union Station

New Museum of Illusions at Union Station uses mirrors to mess with your mind ... A Museum of Illusions, a permanent installation opening Friday, plays with visual and sensory perceptions. You see things that aren’t there. You don’t see things that are there. Objects appear to be flat until they sud...

I like the purple streak. They should put a strip of purple terracotta tile there to cover that purple insulation. Some color in that neighborhood would be nice.

Re: Tension Envelope Building

Both of those properties (Tension and Goodwill) would be good buildings to renovate for that Keystone innovation district that is being discussed.

One vestige of the bank — the drive-through — will remain as part of the new project and will serve a yet-to-be-identifed coffee shop. The two outer lanes of the drive-through will become ITMs — an internet-based hybrid cousin of the ATM. Mark Moberly, Sunflower’s director of development, said it w...

Re: Politics

Immigration should certainly attempt to solve some of our problems. Yes, there are many depopulated states and cities that need immigration--even large ones. I am thinking of places like Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo, Rochester, NY, and St. Louis right away. Instead of allowing immigrants to settle in...

They will probably be under a lot of pressure to reduce the price the longer it sits, because there are activist shareholders who are demanding DST sell their real estate, and return to their core mission only.

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

If the Hyperloop follows I-70, would it even come completely downtown, or say put an end-station around Truman Sports Complex? That option is included in the articles I've read. It seems it would reduce cost a lot by avoiding tight urban conditions / rights-of-way, a lot of existing bridges, and sti...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Something must be done about those dead vacant buildings on the south side of 14th. Those parcels, owned by DST, were always thought to be one of the potential sites of new hotel. DST is under pressure by certain stockholders to sell off their development and real estate arm. I have a feeling that ...

Re: Politics

We have never had open borders and never will. Border control was introduced around 1904. The agency was founded in 1924. So if there was no formal patrol, what kind of control was there at the borders? I think the only reason why border control was introduced around that time because the lesser ra...

Re: Politics

The idea the present administration has with shutting down, or severely limiting, immigration is simply madness. Most Americans are barely reproducing at a rate to replace the existing population of workers. The largest generation in history is either already retired and approaching retirement. When...
