Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

This is the problem with delays that occur when the master developer is not appropriate, or experienced in what the City hopes to achieve. The years of delay have now made creating new buildings in this neighborhood much more expensive. I don't criticize the drawings and plans that Swope had made--t...

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

VanTrust is the master developer for the East Village. I have a feeling they are working on a completely new master plan, and that all the previous plans are moot. Keep in mind that when Swope Community Builders was the lead master developer, they had reduced the number of apartment units in the nei...

Re: Interstate 70 KC to St Louis

Youngsters have it easy today. Try passing your driving test while parallel parking a '70s car (land barge) with bumpers that stuck out a foot from the end of the car. You had no sense of where the edges of the car were.

Re: Politics

Anyone who has lived in New York City knew Trump was a con artist. It's his hometown, and only 14 percent of Manhattan voted for him, and that is where he lived. Only 19 percent of all of New York City voted for him, and that's his hometown.

Tells you a lot.

Re: Fire Damages Church at 9th and Forest

Who is going to save it? I always hoped the neighborhood might be redeveloped with housing again, and that a new purpose would then be found for the structure. I worry that transients will eventually cause a fire that will destroy it completely. The neighborhood is home to several social service age...

Fire Damages Church at 9th and Forest

Fire damaged the First Church of Christ Scientist at 9th and Forest late Sunday night. It was dedicated in 1898. It was most recently the Rock of Our Salvation church, but has been vacant recently. http://www.kctv5.com/story/38916646/flames-rip-through-church-near-9th-and-forest-cause-partial-roof-c...

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

VanTrust has purchased two surface parking lots on Block 66 in the East Village. This is the block bounded by 11th, 12th, Cherry, and Holmes. The City owns the remainder of the block. Just because a city, or neighborhood, doesn't have a history of a particular type of building, doesn't mean that type shouldn't be built.

While looking at a historic register nomination form for Garment District buildings, I came across this photo that I had never seen before. 917-921 Broadway before and after demolition. https://i.imgur.com/Re4Yfk3.jpg Those retail stores would be handy now in creating more restaurants along Broadway.

This must be an old diagram because I see at least six announced, or finished, projects not shown. Re: 2018 Downtown Reports

Developers need to go back to individual lot townhouses that aren't in a condo association. These are built wall-to-wall to the lot lines, or with small walkways between them. That way, each townhouse is really considered a single family residence on its' own lot with no association fees. This is com...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I wonder where they plan to move the two KCPL transmission yards?

I see several parcels they don't have indicated. I would think that west parking lot at the Cold Storage Lofts would be a likely development site. There are also surface lots south of 3rd Street between Oak and Locust.

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

If they are going to do it, they had better figure out a location, and what property to buy now. Available locations downtown are slowly disappearing with each passing year. Once the only locations left to develop are out of walking distance within downtown, or too far away from the streetcar line, ...

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

I don't really think they are banking those parcels for a future baseball stadium. I think they just don't want to give up their cheap surface parking lots. At least no one has offered them enough to make them consider it. When the New York Life building came up for sale. I was really surprised that...
