Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time

While looking at a historic register nomination form for Garment District buildings, I came across this photo that I had never seen before. 917-921 Broadway before and after demolition. https://i.imgur.com/Re4Yfk3.jpg Those retail stores would be handy now in creating more restaurants along Broadway.

Re: On-going downtown development projects

This must be an old diagram because I see at least six announced, or finished, projects not shown. The Drury Inn - Board of Education redevelopment at 12th and McGee; the Hyatt House Hotel at 9th and Broadway; the Muehlebach / Clubhouse Lofts redevelopment, which includes a new building at 13th and ...

Re: 2018 Downtown Reports

Developers need to go back to individual lot townhouses that aren't in a condo association. These are built wall-to-wall to the lot lines, or with small walkways between them. That way, each townhouse is really considered a single family residence on its' own lot with no association fees. This is com...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

I wonder where they plan to move the two KCPL transmission yards?

I see several parcels they don't have indicated. I would think that west parking lot at the Cold Storage Lofts would be a likely development site. There are also surface lots south of 3rd Street between Oak and Locust.

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

If they are going to do it, they had better figure out a location, and what property to buy now. Available locations downtown are slowly disappearing with each passing year. Once the only locations left to develop are out of walking distance within downtown, or too far away from the streetcar line, ...

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

I don't really think they are banking those parcels for a future baseball stadium. I think they just don't want to give up their cheap surface parking lots. At least no one has offered them enough to make them consider it. When the New York Life building came up for sale. I was really surprised that...

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

The what on the far north? If you could create a four block super Between 8th and I-70 there’s no buildings other than 720 Main on the south end. There’s no buildings on the northern edge West of Wyandotte between 6th and 7th just south of the gas station there is a historic building. I believe it ...

Re: "Tower East"

When I grew up in rural NW Missouri, I'd say a majority of people who attended church could have cared less about religion, or to hear the minister speak. They were there to visit with their neighbors and friends. I went only for the singing. So if there was a brunch served every Sunday after servic...

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

This would be a nice get and it would be great if Kansas and Missouri could work on this together. Most of these positions are PHD level type jobs. Wonder if USDA lobbying companies would set up offices in the new location as well. https://www.kansascity.com/news/business/workplace/article216894635...

Re: "Flashcube" Building - 720 Main

“As we get further into it, we find more deterioration in the building,” said Jim Calvert, director of development and construction for Worcester.
Many of us on this forum have known for years the rumors that this building was poorly-built.

But Jason Parson, Tim Duggan and Shomari Benton have big plans for redeveloping the...

Names like that can take, and last for decades. I like Martini Corner because it came from something specific locally as opposed to calling a neighborhood "The East Village," and sort of stealing it from another city for place-making purposes. What is called "The East Village" neighborhood here was ...

Re: Liberty Memorial Musuem and Penn Valley Park

The tangled mat of roots and vegetation knitted the surface of the hillside together. Wish they would have taken the Roanoke Park approach and just worked on taking out the invasive honeysuckle. I am unclear how this project will channel away the water that percolates down and out where it hits the...

Watch "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's" on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) if you have cable, and you will see how difficult it is to open a restaurant.
