Re: Troost developments

I think the City will eventually expand this program east to the area around 27th/Linwood and Prospect. I read awhile back that a vast majority of the single family houses in this area are rentals (over 80 percent), and the City seeks to get more homeowners in the area.

Re: "The East Side" crowdsource definition

The City should try an experiment. They should rename streets. Troost would be given a new name. Then Prospect would become Troost, and Cleveland would be renamed Prospect. Then we would see if it had any effect on what was called the "east side"--especially by the media, and if real estat...

Keep in mind that a lot of buildings have come down for development plans that never happened. Be skeptical.

Re: Houston 2015

The economy will not only be affected by companies that consider moving out of the Houston area, but also companies that will decide not to relocate there in the future, or expand their employment base if they are already there. This may not have so much to do with whether their building was affecte...

Re: Another 16th & Main hotel

That is probably why the Hampton Inn is being built with no incentives, because they aren't having to build a parking garage.

The developers of the Hampton Inn don't own that lot on the SE corner of 16th and Main. That entire block south of 16th is owned by Brad Nicholson.

Re: Houston 2015

Another problem that Houston has is that many parts of the metro area are sinking. Neighborhoods that were built decades ago have sunk several feet, and are now flooding when in the past they didn't. This is because much of the water used in Houston comes from pumping ground water out of the aquifer...

The old streetcar that was parked behind Union Station is being relocated to the NW corner of 5th and Delaware, and will be converted into an ice cream parlor.

I saw workers taking stuff out of the Boone Theater on the SE corner of 18th and Highland. Perhaps they are preparing for work to start on renovation. In addition, the fake storefronts to the east of the theater building have been removed. I don't know when that happened.

It is odd that the hotel developer would consider selling their surface parking lot. I wonder if they are looking for a developer who will lease them back parking spaces in any new parking garage that might be part of a proposed development?

THE HALLMARK PENTHOUSE AT CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS For a long time, if you got on a certain elevator at Hallmark headquarters, there was an extra button at the top labeled “PH.” You needed a key to get into the Hallmark penthouse. The other solution is to run the corridor for each floor up along the north side of the wing (against the theater), and just have rooms on south side of the corridor.
