Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

The reason for that is that it's near other existing retail in CC (mostly Halls); it's on the streetcar/major bus lines; and a store could sit atop a large garage that mi...

Re: OPUS at Broadway Blvd and Westport Road

In the future, there needs to be a proactive compromise put in place that essentially protects the significant historic buildings in-and-around Westport from demolition, but allows for new development of higher density buildings on vacant lots, or to replace less-significant buildings. This needs to...

I'm puzzled how this building got historic designation (and historic tax credits) without being 50 years old (built in 1973).

I don't even know why Swope Community Developers is still involved with this project. Many of the development projects downtown that have been accomplished are fi...

This building turned out better than I thought it would. Although it's a new building, there is a feel to it that it's been there awhile. If it has done anything, it has gotten rid of that hideous void in the block. One doesn't really realize how disrupting vacant lots are until they have been fille...

If you are going to include Lawrence, then why not include Weston, which has a pretty good downtown as well for a small town.

Re: Best and Worst Suburban Downtowns

I would also add Leavenworth to the list--mostly along Delaware Street. It has several good blocks of historic building stock that are decently maintained. The one thing that would improve downtown Leavenworth would be to add some street trees. The City also needs to really do multi-tenant residenti...

When I think of the most dangerous parts of KCMO, Indy and Prospect isn't the one that comes to mind. Sure there is some crime, but the more dangerous parts of the City are as you go south of 27th Street east of Paseo.

I think the epicenter of violent crime is probably around 40th and Prospect.
