Re: Urbanism and Pros and Cons of Gentrification

In most parts of the City, home lots are WAY too big. And I would wager that if you did a study, many occupants rarely use their yards except to mow them. I work in my vegetable garden regularly and have a wide-open view of my neighbors' back yards, and I never see anyone in them except when they mo...

Re: Shoal Creek Valley Neighborhood Plan

Looks like they have plans to put in a bunch of residential in a large chunk of farmland bounded by Shoal Creek Parkway, Flintlock, 76th Street, and MO-152. http://maps.kcmo.org/kcgis/rest/services/external/DataLayers/FeatureServer/35/63816/attachments/27212 We live near that area and I've always w...

Re: KC CityState

Many counties do need to merge in both Kansas and Missouri. The county I grew up in has seen its' population drop to around 4,400 people. The population in 1900 was 17,083. There are schools that are merging with other districts located across the county line, or sharing sports programs with them be...

Re: Politics

Nixon did have fairly high support among Republicans clear up to the end. However, once people realized he was involved in the cover-up of Watergate, that support dropped. I grew up in a heavily-Republican area, and once people became aware of the crimes in the administration, they dropped Nixon lik...

Re: Politics

35% of Americans will support whoever is on their team. It's all about "winning". I say this all the time. I know people whose families would starve without food stamps, and/or be homeless without housing assistance, who vote for Republicans because that is who their father voted for. The...

Greitens seems like the kind of guy that people support based on the limited, projected image, but if they spent an hour with him alone just talking, would walk away hating him.

Re: KC CityState

You need the legislatures of both Kansas and Missouri to approve this, and they won't. Loss of state revenue alone would stop it -- especially in Kansas since the Kansas suburbs pay for much of state government. Then, even if MO/KS approve, for the KC Metro to become a city-state, you would need the...

Re: Politics

So he maybe took some pictures, did some rapey things, possibly blackmailed a woman and also could have engaged in felony tampering to solicit campaign donations. Sounds downright presidential to me. Absolutely, I'm sure Trump is wondering why he didn't think of political advertisements like these....

Re: Downtown New Residential Units

This is the first time I have heard of this proposed development. The elimination of the state tax credits has already derailed the construction of at least one low-income housing building downtown. Last summer, Prairie Fire Development Group drew up plans to t ear down the former Kansas City Public...

Re: 911 Linwood Redevelopment as Senior Housing

Does anyone have any idea of where The Defenders got its name? Very strange. Kind of comic book stuff. It originally had a different name. I remember being in the building in the late eighties on a social work visit to a client, but do not recall when it was torn down. I remember the exterior as ha...

Re: 911 Linwood Redevelopment as Senior Housing

Whatever is happening, it better happen fast. Affordable housing funding and historic tax credits are both on the chopping block on the federal and state level. I would assume this project would utilize both.

You can't wait forever for some pie-in-the-sky mega-project. Look at the North Loop. There is no big payoff coming. Just build smaller infill projects that create activity. It's the appearance of vacancy and no activity that are the reason big tenants don't come. Create a filled-in neighborhood wit...

Yes, it seems a bit much to expect the condo owners to have to shoulder the cost of this alone.
