Re: OFFICIAL - New Downtown YMCA (former Lyric Theater)

DST's real estate arm owned it until the YMCA bought it. DST bought it from the Kansas City Lyric Opera.

DST attempted to turn the existing building into a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) training facility, but that didn't pan out.

Sad to see that Overland Park continues to be so blighted, and economically-challenged, that they still have to grant tax breaks to developers and employers.

Too bad Safdie didn't do our airport. Safdie Architects Designs a 130-Foot-High Indoor Waterfall for Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport ... Most travelers are happy if an airport has clean restrooms, decent dining options, and a well-stocked souvenir store. But expectations will go sky-high with the o...

Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

I agree the deck is necessary. However, I don't foresee the federal or state governments allocating any money for it right now. The state can't even find enough money for the new Buck O'Neil bridge. Missouri also will have to pay to completely rebuild sections of I-29, State highways, and bridges, i...

I wouldn't be surprised if it does become an "active senior" luxury apartment building, since that is one of the fastest growing segments of real estate market.

Re: City Center Square for sale

I tend to pack ultra light when I travel and sometimes misjudge possible weather so might buy a cheap rain jacket, shorts/flipflops, umbrella, etc. I could see hotel visitors going for clothing basics/accessories more than locals. Or if having to stay longer than expected, maybe pickup cheap socks/...

Kansas City Automotive Museum planning huge expansion ... Right now, the museum only has room for around 30 cars in its 10,000 sq. ft. space. There's so much history jammed into the small space, it takes a keen eye to catch it all. Only the most observant visitors would be able to spot the Kansas C...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

I've read several articles in the past two years that say the large open-area work spaces are being found to reduce productivity, not increase it. There is too much noise, activity, and are too many forms of distraction. Employees are more productive and less stressed out if they have their own offi...

Before the new wears off, KC needs to also focus on food and entertainment. Planners do react to feedback, and they tend to return to the "fun" cities over and over. We cannot just skate by on BBQ places and jazz music. There needs to be variety. One of the best advantages KC has for convention trav...

To be fair to MDOT, the gas tax has not been raised in 22 years, and Missouri has among the lowest gas taxes in the USA. The last time the gas tax was on the ballot to be raised (2018), Missourians voted it down. Since 1996, the state has also added more than 525,000 in population, so I assume that ...

In the past these neighborhoods could support a lot of nearby businesses. That was when many houses had five or six people (or more) living in them. Almost 40 percent of all households (houses, apartments) in KCMO are now occupied by single people. On my block, 13 of 29 houses have a single adult li...

It's not only in the City's core. Does the Sears (at former Antioch Mall) really need a surface parking lot this large?
