Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
Was I delusional or did 'they" say this morning that it was going to be 106 degrees Fahrenheit (with heat index) by noon today?? What happened? I don't think I've ever seen the forecast off by 30 degrees before.

What about the odor that resembles dog food? Is that related?
I have thankfully never smelled anything so foul as what was just described... Downtown or otherwise...

It was pretty cool to see. It took a lot longer than I expected though.
I was able to take several pictures from my window:

Re: Best place to get a massage?
I go to Integrative Health Center at 317 Delaware in the River Market for combination Chiropractics and Deep Tissue Massage. I don't know how much they charge for a one-time massage only (I'd randomly guess about $50 for an hour), but it's the real deal and they're the first Chiropractic practice I...

Re: What can the ATA (and the JO) do for transit?
the JO can also not introduce random route changes without notifying riders or posting the changes online. I'm on the route R and we normally exit 35 at 119th but apparently yesterday they started exiting at Lamar and stopping for 15 min at Lamar and 61st-ish all to pick up one person. The riders a...

Number 27 ? - Change some of the routes that have so many different "alternatives" to their own routes. For example, the 51 has these major changes throughout the week: See Route Map "Regular" Route Summit & Bannister Rd Route Night & Sunday Service on Summit and SWBlvd...

For social implications, check out Bowling Alone by Robert Putnam. It's kinda thick but only some of it is applicable and it also has a ton of references.

Is there any reason Waterfire and the arts fair couldn't be done simultaneously? That sounds like a great idea.

Re: The RESERVE...(current FED Bldg)
I stopped by the showroom ( at 909 Walnut ) just to see what was up. They've done a great job with it! There are indeed 3 full-scale model units (a base-model 1-br and two 2-br units, one with "all the works"), complete with mock up windows (which will soon include mocked views from thos...

Re: TempurPedic?
I think the price that was on the sticker included the base. I had to ask what the price for the mattress only was. I can't remember clearly enough to even give a guestimate, but I want to say that it was the same amount as the price difference between the Full and Queen sizes because I was going ...

Re: Finding my niche in KC
Welcome to KC! Here are some ideas regarding choir and church- Choir: Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral downtown (just minutes from Plaza/Westport) has a marvelous choir. John Schafer is choir master, and his capabilities are quite respected here and around the country. Give the choir a listen ...

Re: TempurPedic?
I second the memory foam options at Nebraska Furniture Mart. I've had my TempurPedic-like mattress for 9 months now and I am 100% satisfied. At first it was a little strange to plop down on the bed and sink in instead of bouncing back, but now I really notice a difference when I sleep in other bed...
Re: Airshow
Photos of the airshow. Taken from Case Park. I agree... not as entertaining as in previous years, but still a fun day!

Re: Good Photography Schools
I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for, but my office mate and his wife have taken some classes at JCCC. They've said they were valuable classes with good professors and lots of fancy equipment. His reasoning is that the people who teach photography at JCCC are clearly doing it because they ...

I'd like to read more on that. Got a link? The quote itself is from McClatchy Newspapers . There is a lot of information on the myth of Hydrogen rescuing the energy economy. In looking for an original source for that quote, I ran across this informative diagram (on Wikipedia, so take it as you wil...

Re: $30,000 Electric Car
Ok, there is a difference on what we're talking about. A hydrogen fuel cell breaks down water to extrapolate the H out of water. Using a conventional gas powered motor converted over to burn hydrogen would take the methods you describe. That is why I am big on the fuel cell tech. Electrolysis is...

Re: $30,000 Electric Car
Exactly. The fuel cell variant of GM's Volt will be the mainstream of electric vehicles in the upcoming years. 640 miles for a range on that vehicle ain't bad and the likelihood that triples by 2020 is more than likely. But what the hell good is a fuel cell if we burn coal to get electricity to ...

Re: $30,000 Electric Car
Many did by voting in Democrats several months ago. I wonder how many voters are satisfied with the degree of change thus far. Indeed. The article suggests that is the very reason for the extra low approval rating of Congress. The American population can't wake up for one election, send a message...

Wow, I found one more of the 13% that thinks government works well. (Facts and figures from a Gallup Poll article on Americans' Confidence in Congress and other "Institutions.") I doubt you'll find many people who say this government works well. I don't think anyone here siding with &quo...

Re: $30,000 Electric Car
Yea, that moon landing was one huge disaster. Of course, I'd feel much safer if the government would just let the free market be in charge of things like toothpaste safety, lead content of children's toys, water safety, air quality, etc. I mean, once a few hundred people start dying, nobody is goi...
