No idea why anyone thinks retail or restaurant would work in that location with no storefront.
But there’s so much parking!
They banked on the pop-up meetings providing enough foot-traffic and I'm surprised it didn't work. Sandwiches were quality.

Re: West Plaza

Between 46th, 48th, Stateline and the plaza, I count 18 houses currently in active construction or in the development pipeline. Pretty crazy considering there are hardly any vacant lots. Most of the tear downs have been functional obsolete homes. In my opinion, this is great for the neighborhood an...

Re: West Plaza

Glad this thread was started. West Plaza is an interesting community. Very vocal on Nextdoor and FB groups. They have some challenges unique to Midtown. Not necessarily within West Plaza, but likely of interest: I heard word of mouth that a local brewery and bar is opening in the shops near Hi-Hat o...

Do we still have any pay kiosks in KC that require taking the receipt back to the car? The kiosks on Walnut are the only ones I've used and they are pay-by-plate.
UMKC and its a real challenge for time management skills.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I see more and more runners on Main Street all the time. It’s great to see renewed activity in the city, but it’s kind of awkward when trying to walk with someone else on the sidewalk and a crew of joggers comes barreling towards you. Has anyone thought about turning the alley between Main and Balt...

Re: Westport

FedEx is moving its Plaza center into a Westport location. Don’t know where or why however it is planned to open in May. I was at the plaza FedEx location yesterday and mentioned I'd heard they were moving to Westport. The employee claimed they weren't allowed to discuss it. I pushed further, askin...

Re: Westport

I'm.old enough to remember Westport CID bragging about all the things they do for the neighborhood to make it nicer. Now looking to cut those things to keep up the security theater. Catching up with the forum somewhat this morning; concurring with this point. This is kind of a microcosm of the nati...

Stretch didn't support your street car and anyone could've pirated that space's tenant finish. But yes, good on flavor town. Enjoy the various flavor profiles of mousse and goatee. Cool neighborhood.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

Whatever the fucking Crossroads is now, YJ’s Snack Bar is all the better for leaving it behind & the relocation is an improvement. More space, taller walls finely attuned with artwork of an alt-history of civic pride & civil rights - like the old joint. Seemingly a newer clientele also & Ford is on ...

"I don't think Peggy's retaining her lease. There's a rumor that Birdies will also relocate. In the article, the developers claim to be getting 'hate mail' but don't elaborate. Actual reporting would enlighten this- and perhaps Sight Commercial Realty could be more transparent about their vision/pl...

https://cityscenekc.com/kismet-on-18th-street-yjs-reopening-soon/ The new location for the Snack Bar will be 1746 Washington. The restaurant staff themselves are doing a good amount of the finish, interestingly enough. There's a fair amount of personal reportage on people's social media, but no sati...

The article really shorts Ford's pioneering efforts and business savvy. I'm proud of him for going on the record with rare, actual, passionate opinions. Better journalism had better be forthcoming.

Re: Kansas City Music

I'll check out Psychic Heat's recording, I was at their first show in KC at a defunct place called Outpost on the Lower Westside. I could tell then that they were good. I didn't listen to much local music this year, was hoping for a year-end retrospective that might help with the catch-up. First mus...

The Conquerors' - "Wyld Time" Tongues - Self Titled There were a lot of good, small releases. It's hard to say what the "best" was. Re: Kansas City Music

Lets start compiling a year-end list. The best Kansas City record of the year is Umberto's 'Alienation.' Yes, Umberto now resides and records in LA. Anyone have any contributions?
