Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?

Just FYI, many Architectural/Construction textbooks or books today speak a lot about sustainability and are really pushing hard for it. Many also go as far as to speak not only about sustainability, but also speak against sprawling suburbs... Sustainability may be defined as meeting the needs of the...

mean.. I didn't say they weren't real Christians, so you didn't win... I said they aren't traditional or following ancient Christianity. They are obviously still Christian.

Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?

Not really AKP, because one farm produces much more food than for just the family that runs it, if the excess food is sold in the local marketplace in the village or town, then people can live both in the rural area and in town and not have to worry about food, and land wouldn't be consumed in mass....

Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?

Highlander, this is about reducing what we are doing. I do not think we can ever stop it all... However we need to do our best to limit it as much as possible. Just stopping at letting suburbs/sprawl exist and letting people do what they want isn't enough... We need to push it as far as we can with ...

Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?

However AKP, that would STILL include the massive destruction of land and habitats. I as a Christian can NEVER EVER support that... Christians don't support sin just because it's there and won't dissapear do they? Why should I then, as a Christian, support the destruction of the Earth just because o...

Re: Religion...

Sorry but I can't, because most Bible resources online are of the Masoretic (7th-10th Centuries AD) text for the Old Testament and are not based on the Septuagint (3rd to 1st Centuries BC). The Septuagint is the oldest and was used by both Jews and Christians in the first century (and before then). ...

Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?

I didn't say I was out of KC Rag... Just out of that discussion, don't know why you thought that, unless you were hoping it was true... It isn't MY own ideas, it's a combination of traditional/historical Christianity mixed in with writings/lectures given by some modern day folks like Jane Jacobs, Ja...

Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?

I'm not going to expand to those that want to continue the status quo and aren't concerned with sprawl or it's elimination and the limitation of the automobile... The difference between sprawl and smart, sustainable growth is like a human... Someone who is careless, gluttonous and wasteful/lazy will...

Re: Religion...

Matthew: And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" Some of those who stood there, when they heard that, said, "This Man is calling for Elijah!" Immediately one o...

Re: Religion...

Doubting is a part of faith. If you have faith, you will doubt because we are human and fallen. We can either let the doubts destroy our faith, or strengthen it... The part about John the Baptist doubting: Matthew 11:2,3 (OSB) "And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sen...

Re: Religion...

You can also look at it this way... The baptism of Christ. The Bible says that a dove descended and the voice of God was heard. "Rational" people could say that this is unreasonable and couldn't have happened because we have no proof that God has ever spoken aloud to anyone. However many C...

Re: Religion...

Why should we focus so much on our own rationalizing and reasoning when humans by far are not perfect, and always make mistakes? Today we believe certain things in Science, and other fields that we treat as facts, but as technology advances, we could easily find that those things aren't completly tr...

Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?

Not to mention we would still need massive road and highway systems that cost A LOT to maintain and build... Asphalt will continue to go up in price and it'd be cheaper to use concrete, however I think concrete needs more maintenance. Many streets in the city might go back to brick, stone, etc... si...

Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?

It won't be going back to the stone age, but rather just back before the car. We will still be based on commercial jobs instead of industrial, however the car will be severely diminished, as well as airplanes. Travel will be by water, by rail, by animals, by foot, by mass transit and by bike (or som...

Re: Religion...

If any supernatural/spiritual force is out there, they are absolutely horrible at communicating with us.  Believers claim obscure 'mysterious ways' and do not apparently have a need for direct communication.  If these intelligent forces are not able to communicate to us with specific clarity, then ...
