I've been to a TJs in Philly and it had no alcohol. There was a state-run (I believe) liquor store next door, but no 2 Buck Chuck!

Re: "Official" Plaza at the Speedway

Perhaps this elitist attitude is overcompensation for coming from a less-than-sophisticated family/environment. Red Lobster is what it is. I've never heard anybody call the place "'fine dining". It's more along the lines of family dining. It's humble, and that bothers those who are not. T...

Re: "Official" Plaza at the Speedway

Thank's for letting us know the new things coming to. Hopefully the others come or other types like them. We need more Red Lobster with the 2 here one in Overland Park and other in Olathe so busy. I suppose this development is positive just because nothing KCK was so lacking in well, any retail or ...

Re: 18 Cities Where the Suburbs are Rapidly Turning Into Slums

You see a lot of this in Denver where the older, "inner ring" suburbs, and especially apartment complexes built in the '70 and '80s are now kind of "ghetto-fied", meaning mosly poor, recent immigrants from all over the planet live in these areas and crime is higher than in urban ...

They must have felt comfortable out there in suburban hell, just like their restaurants.  Maybe they'll go out of business once the requirements to post calorie/fat/sodium infomation on their menus kicks in.  Eh... doubt it.  Americans love their heart-stopping food in mega portions.

Re: First Family Church (Rev. Jerry Johnston) faces foreclosure

Don't worry DanCa. I'm sure some nasty sex scandal will eventually pop up, and solve that problem. :D I look forward to that!  I don't tell my parents I've researched their church and know what's going on, so I let them tell me about all the "wonderful things" going on at FFC and bite my ...

Last time I was in that Dillons was to buy a box of Little Debbie cakes and some Cheetos.  I ate them all walking back home.  Of course it was 1993 and I had just smoked something funny.

I hope this jackass and his cult church go under.  My own nutty family go to this church and talk about him like he's some supestar.  They have some crazy ideas from this lunatic too.  If my parents have wills, I'm betting it's all going to "doctor" Jerry, not me!

Re: Norway II: The countryside

The houses are generally wood which is more like the US.  They are built really well though and an angry fist into the wall would result in a trip to the emergency room instead of a trip to Home Depot.  Not that I have done that.  I lived in Germany for 3 years and the walls were solid cinder block...

It all worked out eventually.  I've never had an issue getting my bags at DIA.  I love our airport from functionality to artwork and architecture.  Denver just likes to do things big!

Uh... since it opened.  It stands for Denver International Airport, its official name.  What did you think people would call it?

Re: Design revealed for DIA light rail terminal

My family lives in Denver now, so I fly there frequently.  From a design standpoint, I like it.  They did some creative things like the little spinning propeller things in the train tunnel.  The projected addition looks really cool (that's an architectural term).  The rapid transit to the airport i...

That just makes me dizzy and sick to see some of those (especially the last) pictures!  I find it interesting how the architecture of their houses seems more comparable to American houses than the rest of Europe though.

Re: Design revealed for DIA light rail terminal

Wow, it's really tall. Is that useable space or just decorative? Also, I think it's going to be commuter rail, not light rail? That's a hotel- the two sides.  They went back and forth on light rail vs. commuter rail, and I've heard it referred to as light rail on the news recently, so I'm not sure ...

Re: cannibis cafe in Portland

I just heard on the news this evening that 197 permits have been issued in Denver in the past month for marijuana dispensaries in just the past month   I think part of the reason is because new regulations in January will prevent them from being near schools, or using it on site.  However, st...

Re: cannibis cafe in Portland

Just heard about this on NPR a few days back.  "Broadsterdam."  I had no idea Denver was as much on the heels of LA and San Fran.  Venice Beach in LA is littered with hippies holding signs that say, "The Doctor is In!"  For both areas, though, you need to be a resident of the st...

Re: cannibis cafe in Portland

Sounds like the same thing we have all over Denver.  They're called "medicinal marijuana dispensaries" here, but they have all sorts of food with pot in it, you can buy it to smoke, then they have party rooms/decks, music, etc.  From what I've heard, all you have to do is say you have pain...

The crash came in the mid-1980s as the price of oil slid from $34 a barrel in 1981 to $9 a barrel in 1986. Once again unemployment and office vacancy rates soared. Some 13,000 Denver oil industry workers lost their jobs. In 1985 and 1986, a downtown Denver overbuilt during the energy boom of the 19...
