Local Website LOL

September 25th, 2008 by bahua

So I’ve been informed that a local publication has determined scientifically that this is the best website in Kansas City. That may or may not be, but it has little to do with me, except that I pay to keep it running, I’ve posted thousands of offensive(but local!) posts on the forum, for which this site is really just a wrapper, and the fact that I respond to the occasional database crash with frantic action that distracts me from my actual job.

Nevertheless, thank you, Kansas City! Thank you, local publication! Your attention has inspired me to start attempting to innovate again, but I’m sure it will pass. This site was actually started in 2002 by a local urban zealot with the first name of Cody, as a definitive source for news about local development. Until May of this year I thought he was just a sophisticated robot, as I never met him in person until then, including the times we’d talked over IM about him handing off the site(or more accurately, the forum) to me.

While it certainly has more than its share of cheese, feel free to dig through the obscenity and KU/MU flamewars, because there really is good content on this site, and even now, I still consider it Kansas City’s best source for inside information, before any other local publications get a whiff. In fact they often come here to catch leads, or at least I’ve been told that by my geeky affinity for checking IPs and email addresses. Have a look around, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. We have hundreds of very active local and not-so-local users that have one main thing in common: they are fascinated by Kansas City. That makes for an interesting time, but be warned. Sometimes it gets ugly.

Enjoy the ugliness and thanks for stopping by. Also, thanks for prompting me to update the front page of this site for the first time in over a year. I update my own website a great deal more often.
